Ten questions to ask your local repairer

1. Are you a dedicated servo motor repairer?

We've been doing servo repairs for over 18 years. We specialise in servo motors.  Remember - “Have a go” repairers can often reduce a once repairable servo motor to an unserviceable repair.

2.What experience do you have in repairing Servo Motors? We began repairing servos in 1988 - over 18 years experience!  Our engineers are factory trained and experienced in the repair of all types of electro mechanical servo motors. We've repaired 1000’s of servomotors from over 200 different manufacturers. Including such leading names as Contraves, Fanuc, Indramat and Siemens.
3. Can I talk to an Engineer about my problem before I send the motor or drive away? The motor may not be the root of the problem, so we take the time to discuss your application. In many cases we are able to troubleshoot your problem over the phone (at no charge). Having hopefully identified your problem we can advise on the best course of action. Workshop repair of motor or drive, service exchange or arrange a site visit by one of our field service engineers.
4. Do you have the equipment to re-magnetise my DC Permanent Magnet Motors?

Dismantling a DC servomotor can dramatically reduce the field strength of the magnet shell. The net result can be decreased performance from your servomotor (reduced torque). At EDMR we recognise this and have the capability to re-magnetise all DC servo motors back to the original manufacturers specification.

5. How much will you charge to evaluate my motor? New from July 2002. Free Evaluation we will fully test and evaluate your servo motor. Depending on the complexity of the servomotor, we'll easily spend in excess of 2 hours evaluating and quoting your motor. Should you not wish to go ahead with the repair then all you pay is the return carriage charges.
6. How quickly can you repair my servo motor?   At EDMR we provide an emergency service that in most circumstance will facilitate a repair within 24 - 48 hours.  This service provides an expedited evaluation and quotation on arrival at our workshop.  Our goal is getting you up and running as quickly as possible - minimising your down time.
7. What Specialist equipment do you have for testing feedback devices? When testing an encoder, resolver, tachometer the output signal is absolutely critical to the operation of the servo motor.  Simply looking for an output signal is not enough. We have dedicated test equipment specifically designed to test the multitude of feedback devices that are currently shipped with modern servo motors.
8. What warranty do you provide? Problems can be caused by shipping, installation, or by something other than the motor (controller, drive, cables etc.).  We will help you to quickly isolate the problem. If the problem is in fact isolated to the motor, we'll go out of our way to rectify the problem as quickly as possible. All motors come complete with 12 months warranty.
9. Can you test my motor on a suitable drive? Since our inception in 1988 the one thing that has distanced EDMR from the rest is our ability to test servo motors with a matched manufacturer’s drive.
10. One last reason to use EDMR? Servomotor repair can be expensive!   Having a machine down because of a faulty servo can be even more expensive.  Managers with foresight fully understand the importance of quality of workmanship and timeliness of repair in reducing down time.  Both qualities are core principles in EDMRs mission statement.
