Don’t trust your
repairs to inexperienced motor repair companies. The
motor in this picture was sent to a local rewind
shop for overhaul. When the motor was installed on
site and put into service the motor went into over
speed causing catastrophic consequences. The
cause of the failure was a reversal of the field
connections during the overhaul process. Luckily
nobody was injured in this instance, but the machine
the motor was connected to suffered considerable
damage and the motor had to be replaced. |

Carry out
electrical checks and test, resistance test,
insulation test.

If motor is
received in a running condition the motor is run
and checked against OEM specification

Motor is
dismantled.

Check bearing
housings and shaft for concentricity.

Clean and degrease
component parts of the motor.

Remove and replace
bearings, seals and motor brushes.

Machine and
undercut commutators.

Reassembly of
motor.

Complete test
against OEM specification.

Test motor on DC
thyristor drive closed loop with dynamic load
test.

Pricing
Although we are able to offer a rough guide to standard
overhauls the most accurate way of pricing your
repair is to evaluate, inspect and test it. On
receipt of a motor this is exactly what we do.
After the engineer has completed a full
investigation (typically 2 hours) the details of
faults, if any are found, are passed onto the
service manager who then provides a fully itemised
quotation detailing the parts failed and the cost of
the repair. In addition the quotation will indicate
how long the repair will take given current
stock availability. |

Warranty -
All shunt motors repaired at EDMR comes complete
with 12 months warranty. |
