EDMR repairs servo motors from many of the leading manufacturers.

Fanuc, Siemens, SEM and Pacific Scientific servo motors: All repaired at the specialist workshops run by EDMR.

So why use EDMR?

Because repairing servo motors is our main business. Servo motors are not like standard induction motors, they need specialist staff, knowledge, equipment and test facilities. At EDMR we have all these attributes. If you have ever used a local rewind company you will probably hear them say we can have a go but can't test it. Not a good situation to be in if what you really want is an OEM quality repair. And talking of OEMs we are authorised by a number of servo motor manufacturers which emphasises our dedication to quality and service.

Fanuc alpha series motors dismantled ready for repair at EDMR. Specialist equipment for Fanuc encoders enables EDMR to full test the operation of the encoder independant of the motor. Dedicated Fanuc drive and Numerical control enables full closed loop testing of any Fanuc motor.

AC servo testing facility, drives above motors enables EDMR to test all of the leading manufacturers motors. Displayed on this picture are motors from Contraves, Siemens, Indramat, Fanuc, Baumuller and SEM.

Testing

All servo motors are fully tested by our trained servo engineers. Every AC / DC servo motor is tested both statically and dynamically to insure proper operation. Encoders, resolvers and tachometers are set-up and calibrated to the correct position and signal. Brakes are tested to ensure they are achieving the OEM specified holding torque. EDMR has over 30 different manufacturers drives so that we can match a motor to its equivalent drive. EDMR has also invested in a number of specialist drive configurations that allow us to auto-size motors to a generic drive. Above all we aim to fully test your motor to OEM specification.

Remagnetising

It is important to understand that once a DC permanent magnet servo motor or stepper motor has been dismantled for repair, it may effect the field strength of the magnets. This will result in the motor not working to its maximum performance specification. Typically poor field strength will result in low torque and high current.  We have a dedicated re-magnetiser and a variety of magnetising fixtures that allows us to re-magnetise common types of permanent magnet motors. If we do not hold a fixture for your particular motor then we are able to build one to suit. Finally once we have re-magnetised the motor we will check the magnetic field strength against the OEM specification.

Re-magnetising equipment enables us to re-mag DC Permanent magnet motors. Comprehensive range of fixtures to support most motor types.

Support

At EDMR we don't just repair motors and think nothing more of the customers. We like to build a relationship with our customers and try and improve the reliability of their motors. If we see a recurring problem we identify it and talk through the problem to see if we can locate the reason for a premature or repetitive failure. It is this level of support that major blue chip companies look for in their suppliers. Our current repair database lists over 50,000 servo motor repairs that we have carried out, from no less than 500 different motor manufacturers. So chances are we have repaired most of the servo motors available.

24-7-365

Reducing downtime is critical to our customers and we are here to help where we can. When our customers have an emergency we are able to offer an expedited repair service. Our extensive range of stock parts enables us to provide a fast turnaround without the costly delay in ordering parts from a supplier. More and more we are stocking complete service exchange motors and drives to cover these emergency breakdown situations. On occasions where we have to source parts from a third party we will keep you informed of the progress of the job.

Quality

Quality is at the core of EDMR. Established in 1988 it is a commitment to quality that has enabled us to remain the leaders in servo motor repairs. Our ISO procedures are specifically written to cover the repair of electric motors and drives. Comprehensive work instructions are available for all manner of  motors and feedback devices which enables EDMR to provide a cost effective high quality service.

Pricing

Although we able to offer a rough guide to standard overhauls the most accurate way of pricing your repair is to evaluate, inspect and test it. On receipt of a servo motor this is exactly what we do. After the engineer has completed a full investigation (typically 2 hours) the details of faults, if any are found, are passed onto the service manager who then provides a fully itemised quotation detailing the parts failed and the cost of the repair. In addition the quotation will indicate how long the repair will take given current stock availability.
