History
of EDMR |
Jointly
owned by Kevin Simpson and Malcolm Snell, Managing Director, EDMR was formed in
1988. Though originally employing only four and working from a small, central
Northampton location, the company quickly established an outstanding reputation
for quality work and a rapid turnaround. Specialists in repairing servo motors
and drives, EDMR soon became one of the leading companies in its field; the firm
is now the approved service agent for Kollmorgen, Pacific Scientific, NUM
Servomac and Powertec equipment in Europe.
Recent
expansion, restructuring and acquisition has further strengthened EDMR’s
position in the market. Recognised in the UK as one of the most forward thinking
companies in its field, EDMR is also building a considerable reputation in
Europe through providing major clients such as Ford, Vauxhall, Siemens and ICI
with unequalled services and technical capabilities.
In
mid 1996 European Drives & Motor Repairs acquired the service business of a
Northampton based competitor, Contraves Industrial Products Ltd. The acquisition
of the Contraves Service Division, from the parent company Cleveland Machine
Controls, resulted in EDMR being immediately appointed as CMC’s sole supplier
for the repair, servicing and supply of spare parts for Contraves Motor and
Drives in the UK and Ireland. Following the acquisition EDMR moved its operation
to the new site at Moulton Park; and in addition to retaining the premises, EDMR
also kept the Contraves service and repair staff. This acquisition was one of
the first steps towards EDMR’s long term objective of growth and movement into
the European market.
Market
research amongst Original Equipment Manufacturers, the main source of EDMR’s
business, has shown that there are no major European competitors. Having secured
service contracts with clients on the Continent, EDMR is currently looking at
establishing working partnerships with European industrial service providers. |
